Broadway Jazz

Broadway Jazz

Jazz dance evolved on Broadway in the 1950s into the new, smooth style that is taught today and is also known as Theatre Jazz or Modern Jazz. This performance style of Jazz was popularised to a large extent by Bob Fosse’s work, which is exemplified in Broadway shows such as Chicago, Cabaret and Sweet Charity.

In Broadway Jazz class we focus on the strength and conditioning exercises necessary to execute choreography from past and present musicals. A musical theatre performer has to be incredibly versatile! They have to have beautiful technique and exceptional musicality.

Choreography for this class is inspired by the Broadway greats like Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins. Any students with serious musical theatre aspirations should consider combining this class with a Song and Dance class. Combined, these classes are an opportunity to develop all the skills necessary to become a formidable TRIPLE THREAT.
