Acrobatics

Acrobatics

Acrobatic Dance, or Acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements.

Miss Shannon’s Dance Stream follows both the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and an open class structure. It is important to note that Acrobatics is not the same as Gymnastics and there is a need to teach Acro skills differently than Gymnastics skills. Dance training is essential to the success of the AcroDancer. Each class contains progressive exercises for flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering and tumbling. Students will learn the correct techniques involved in performing tricks in solo, partnering and group work while also building coordination, spatial and aerial awareness. Students can expect to learn everything from forward rolls, splits, cartwheels and handstands to round-offs, walkovers and handsprings. While these classes are challenging, they are guaranteed to be fun and exciting! Age and ability levels will determine class content and safety mats will be used throughout practice.
