Shannon Clark
Principal and Director - PDPTC, ARAD
Shannon has had a love affair with dance most of her life. At the age of three she commenced ballet class as a means of strengthening her turn out muscles after being diagnosed as “pigeon toed”. She had the opposite of a natural facility for dance and had to work extremely hard to develop the turnout, ankle and core strength necessary to pass her exams as she matured. The obstacles she encountered, and eventually overcame, only made her love dance more. Little did she know that all that extra effort was going to contribute to her becoming a tenacious performer and a very patient and passionate teacher.
Shannon has been teaching dance for 25 years. She specialises in jazz, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, tap, song and dance/ musical theatre. Shannon has completed her Professional Dancers’ Postgraduate Teaching Certificate (PDPTC) and is a registered RAD teacher. She is also a certified Acrobatic Arts Instructor. She has completed her Advanced 2 R.A.D classical ballet and received the Premier’s Award for Excellence after topping the state of NSW in HSC dance. Shannon has a Diploma in Performing Arts from Dance World Studios (Melbourne) where she studied, full time, for two years. She also graduated, with Distinction, a Bachelor of Media Communications through Charles Sturt University. She was able to complete this degree via distance education whilst working as a professional dancer and teacher.
Shannon has worked professionally as a dancer/singer/actress for over two decades. She toured Australia with the Musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang- understudying one of the principal roles. She travelled the world working as a dancer for Princess Cruise Lines. The highlight of this experience was being selected as an inaugural cast member and soloist for the Emerald Princess. She danced at the Ground Breaking Ceremony of Hong Kong Disneyland and has performed numerous times on Sydney Showboat, in children’s shows and at corporate events throughout Australia and Asia. You may also see her on the occasional television commercial.
Shannon uses both her performing experience and her training to equip students with a solid technical foundation that revolves around focus, expression and musicality. As she has experienced a professional performing career, she can offer students insight and guidance in their own artistic pursuits. She has the capacity to train students to both a professional and a recreational standard.
